How to Combine SGPA into CGPA

Calculating your overall CGPA from individual semester SGPAs requires combining marks across terms. The exact procedure depends on whether credit hour data is available:

Credit-Weighted Combination (Exact)

Multiply each semester's SGPA by its total credit hours, sum these weighted quality points across all terms, and divide by the grand total of credits attempted.

Unweighted Simple Average (Fallback)

If credits are uniform or unknown across terms, sum all SGPAs and divide by the total number of semesters. Our calculator automatically alerts you when unweighted mode is active.

SGPA to CGPA FAQ

Get immediate answers to common questions about formulas, grading scales, and official conversions.

How do I calculate CGPA from multiple semester SGPAs?

Enter your SGPA for each semester along with the total credits registered in that semester. The credit-weighted formula Σ(SGPA × Credits) / Σ(Credits) gives your exact cumulative CGPA.

What happens if I don't know the credit hours for my semesters?

If you leave credits blank for any semester, our engine automatically switches to an unweighted simple average (Sum of SGPAs / Number of Semesters) and displays a clear notice informing you of the fallback.

Why is credit-weighted calculation more accurate than simple averaging?

Semesters often have varying total credits (e.g. 24 credits in Year 2 vs 16 credits in final project term). A semester with higher credits carries a proportionally larger weight toward your degree.

Can I combine SGPAs from different grading scales?

All entered SGPAs must be on the same base scale (e.g. 10.0 scale for all semesters). If your university changed scales mid-way, convert individual terms first.

Does this combiner work for 8-semester engineering degrees?

Yes! Click '+ Add Semester' to add as many semesters (Sem 1 to Sem 8+) as needed for your degree.
